Your rights,
without the legalese.
The General Data Protection Regulation gives you concrete rights over your data. Here's what they mean — and how to exercise them in a minute.
§ 01In short
With Elterntakt you manage sensitive family data — children, calendars, documents, health. The strictest rules of the GDPR apply. You stay fully in control at all times: view, change, export, delete. Free, no justification required.
§ 02Your rights in detail
Right of access — Art. 15 GDPR
You can ask at any time what personal data we hold about you, for what purpose, for how long, and with whom we share it. We'll provide a complete copy in human‑readable format.
Right to rectification — Art. 16 GDPR
If something is wrong (name misspelled, email outdated, family role incorrect), you have the right to prompt correction. In the app: just edit it. Outside: one sentence to support.
Right to erasure — Art. 17 GDPR
Also known as the "right to be forgotten". You can request deletion of your account and all associated data. We delete within 30 days irrevocably — except for what we must retain for legal reasons (tax, accounting).
Right to restriction — Art. 18 GDPR
If you have doubts about the accuracy or lawfulness of our processing, you can ask us to "freeze" the data — stored but not used, until the matter is resolved.
Right to data portability — Art. 20 GDPR
Your data belongs to you. On request, you'll receive all the data you provided in a structured, machine‑readable format (JSON + original files). This lets you switch to another provider if you wish.
Right to object — Art. 21 GDPR
You can object at any time to processing based on our legitimate interest (e.g. anonymous product analytics). An email is enough — a reason is helpful but not required.
Withdrawal of consent — Art. 7(3) GDPR
Anything you've actively opted into (push notifications, calendar sync) can be revoked with a single click. Processing up to that point remains lawful — what happens afterwards doesn't happen.
§ 03What we do without being asked
Some privacy principles are built into Elterntakt at the core — you don't need to request them:
- Data minimisation — we store only what's strictly necessary for the service. Never "let's collect it just in case".
- Family-only access — the digital record is visible only to the people you invited into your family.
- Hosting in Germany — all data lives with Hetzner Online GmbH in German data centres (Falkenstein/Nuremberg).
- No ads, no selling — Elterntakt is funded exclusively by the Family subscription.
- Privacy by default — new features are privacy‑friendly out of the box; optional sharing starts off.
§ 04How to exercise your rights
In the app
Open Settings → Privacy. You'll find:
- Download my data (access & portability) — ZIP with JSON export and all record files in their original format.
- Delete account — single‑step confirmation, deletion within 30 days.
- Manage consents — push, analytics, calendar sync individually on/off.
By email
For anything that can't be done in the app — or if you can't access your account anymore:
Please include the email address you used to register with Elterntakt — that way we can identify your account reliably. We reply within 30 days (Art. 12(3) GDPR).
§ 05Complaint to the supervisory authority
If you're unhappy with how your data is handled, you have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority — regardless of whether you contacted us first. The authority competent for us is:
Werderstraße 74a
19055 Schwerin, Germany
